Why Corners Matter: The Hidden Weak Spot in Your Guttering System

websitebuilder • 17 November 2025

When people think about guttering, they usually picture long straight runs along the edge of their roof. But the real problems tend to start somewhere else entirely... at the corners.  Corners are the point where two lengths of guttering meet. This is also where most leaks begin, where poor installation shows up first and where water damage to fascia, soffits and roof timbers can quickly become costly. As a guttering specialist working across Tyrone, we see the same issue again and again; If the corners aren't installed properly, the whole system fails.

Why are corners the most common points of leaks?

  1. There is more movement due to expansion and contraction (if PVC Guttering is used)
  2. Two pieces of guttering are connected together
  3. Any small gap becomes a pathway for water
  4. Poor quality sealant used
  5. Poor-quality hangers put pressure on the weakest points of the system
  6. Corners determine the flow of the entire system!

At Clogher Valley Guttering, we use seamless aluminium guttering systems, which means there is less movement compared to PVC gutter systems, seals are stronger and joints are tighter.
